Repairs That Deal with the Cause

Potholes are the visible end of a longer process. Water gets in through open joints and cracks, the base softens under traffic, and the edges break away where nothing holds them. Our pothole repairs service deals with individual holes, while road repairs cover the wider work that stops more forming.

Catching a road at this stage costs far less than rebuilding it later. A survey shows which sections need attention now and which can wait.

The Repairs We Carry Out

Each defect gets the repair that suits it, rather than the same patch everywhere.

  • Patch repairs: failed areas cut back square, dug out, tack coated and filled with hot material
  • Overlay and inlay: a new surface over a sound base, or planed out and replaced to keep levels
  • Joint sealing: open joints between old and new surfacing sealed to keep water out
  • Crack sealing: cracks cleaned out and sealed before they widen
  • Edge repairs: crumbling edges cut back, rebuilt and held with haunching or a new kerb

Road Repairs

Spreading Repairs Over Several Years

For managing agents and estates working to a fixed budget, repairs can be split into a priority list: safety items first, then the sections most likely to fail next. You can see where the money goes each year and plan the rest.

Frequently Asked Questions

Road Repairs: Your Questions Answered

What is the difference between road repairs and pothole repairs?

Pothole repairs fix individual holes. Road repairs cover the wider defects that lead to them, such as cracking, open joints, crumbling edges and worn sections that need an overlay or inlay.

How are your patch repairs carried out?

The failed area is cut back to a square edge, dug out to sound material, tack coated, filled with hot material and compacted, then the joints are sealed. That bonds the patch to the road around it instead of leaving it sitting in a hole.

Is crack sealing worth doing?

On a road with a sound base, yes. Sealing cracks keeps water out of the base, which is what turns a crack into a pothole, and it costs far less than patching later.

Can you repair the edges of a private road?

Yes. Crumbling edges are cut back to sound material, the base made good and the edge rebuilt, with kerbs where they are needed to stop it breaking up again.

Do you offer free quotes for road repairs?

We visit, look at the ground, the levels and where the water goes, then send a written quote setting out what the job involves. There is no charge for the visit and no obligation to go ahead.
