Affordable Resin Driveways in Kent

Resin bound and resin bonded sound alike but they are different surfaces. Resin bound mixes the stone and resin together and trowels it on, giving a smooth, porous finish that lets rain drain straight through. Resin bonded spreads resin over the base and scatters loose stone onto it, leaving a textured, grippy surface that is not permeable on its own.

Resin bound is usually the choice for front driveways, because its permeability helps with surface water and planning rules. We also lay it on paths, patios and steps so the whole frontage matches.

Quality You Can Depend On

Resin is only as good as what it sits on. For a new drive we build a compacted sub-base topped with a porous asphalt or concrete base designed to drain, with the edging fixed first so the resin finishes cleanly against it. An existing tarmac or concrete drive can sometimes be overlaid if it is sound and level, and we will tell you plainly if yours is not.

The mix is laid at an even depth and finished by hand with a trowel, so the result depends on the people laying it. You can choose from a range of stone colours and blends, and we can show you samples before you decide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Resin Bound & Resin Bonded Driveways: Your Questions Answered

What is the difference between resin bound and resin bonded?

Resin bound has the stone mixed into the resin, giving a smooth, porous surface with no loose stones. Resin bonded has stone scattered onto a resin coat, giving a rougher, gravel-like texture that does not drain through.

Is a resin driveway permeable?

Resin bound is, provided it is laid on a base that drains. Laid over solid tarmac or concrete, the water passes through the resin but then needs falls to carry it off the base.

Can resin go over my existing driveway?

If your tarmac or concrete is sound, level and free of moving cracks, often yes. If it is breaking up, the cracks will come through the resin, so the base needs replacing first.

How do I look after a resin driveway?

Sweep it regularly and give it an occasional wash at moderate pressure. Clear leaves before they rot down, and deal with oil spills quickly.

Will a resin driveway crack?

Resin bound surfaces crack when the base underneath moves, so the base is the part we take most care over. A sound tarmac or concrete base, or a new one built on a compacted sub-base, keeps the resin layer stable.
