SE Groundworks

We are a family run groundworks business based in Staplehurst, in the heart of Kent. For over 20 years the team has prepared sites, laid driveways and surfaced car parks and roads for homeowners, businesses and public bodies across the county.

You get one reliable, hard-working and friendly team that handles the digging, drainage, kerbs and the finished surface, so the parts that matter most, the base and the falls, are done by the same people who lay the top.

Which areas do you cover?

We are based in Staplehurst and work across Kent, including Maidstone, Ashford, Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells, Sevenoaks, Canterbury and the Medway towns, plus parts of East Sussex, West Sussex and south-east London such as Hastings, Crawley, Horsham and Bromley.

Do you charge for quotes?

No. Quotes are free and there is no obligation. We visit, measure up and talk through the options, then send a written price so you can compare it properly.

Do you work for businesses as well as homeowners?

Yes. Alongside driveways and patios for homeowners we carry out commercial groundworks, car park and road surfacing, pothole repairs and reinstatement work for businesses, schools, farms and public sector clients.

Do I need permission for a dropped kerb?

Yes. A dropped kerb crosses the public footway, so the local highway authority has to approve it before work starts. We can explain what the council will ask for and plan the job around their conditions.

Will a new front driveway need planning permission?

Usually not, as long as the surface is permeable or the water drains to a lawn, border or soakaway within your property. Paving more than five square metres of front garden with a non-permeable surface that runs onto the road needs planning permission, so we design drainage in from the start.

How soon can you start?

It depends on the size of the job and the time of year. Once you have your quote we agree a start date with you, and we keep you updated if the weather moves anything.
